Photoshop CC 2015.5.0 crashing when renaming layers?

i blending 10-12 layers in ps composite image.  half hour project went rename layer , ps crashed.  had renamed layers including one. hoping 1 time occurrence , not bug type of thing time.

 

i update ps when available, latest version installed few days ago believe.  system report recovered layers after reopening.  resource usage appears normal.

i avoid updates @ least 6 monthsafter release exact same reason. let's say, last 3 years not smooth ride.

 

my issue same, rename layer, crash photoshop.

 

this has happened 3 times in quick succession now. i'll check if can reproduce , outline conditions.
