USB Microphone Setting

suppose have usb microphone, technical specs as, 16 bit, 48khz. when change setting in audio hardware in preferences, selecting other 48k matters? futher when recording audio file, can record @ higher bit depth. if yes, how possible, microphone sending 16 bit per sample @ rate of 48k, , recording @ higher bit depth , higher sample rate.

once you've selected device, in theory record @ rate; if let os resample it, automatically. so, recording @ 48k way go. if need result @ different sample rate, let audition afterwards - higher quality conversion.

futher when recording audio file, can record @ higher bit depth. if yes, how possible, microphone sending 16 bit per sample @ rate of 48k, , recording @ higher bit depth , higher sample rate.

you can record @ greater bit depth - happen if, instance, recorded 24-bit file, least significant 8 bits stored zeros.

bottom line - mic providing 16-bit bitstream @ 48k. nothing can improve on quality of this; you'll end using more storage same signal, , if resample on way in, inferior result.
