Multi Track Record and Monitor - device required

1. drag track track 1 in audition.

 

2. arm track 2 record.

 

3. voice onto track 2.

 

4. end voice on track 2 in context music on track 1 - can manually mix 2 tracks down after words.

 

this can monitor track , voice accordingly hear track. in proper studio.

 

at present run

 

1 x imac

1 x soundcraft mixer epm900 connected via outputs imac

1 x neuman connected fader 1 xlr on mixer

1 x 2 phono minis 1 single mini input on imac jack input.

1 x bose companion 2 ( imac output directly bose )

 

i can record imac , here myself via headphones in mixer - play recording via bose companions.

 

i guess need send track 1 mixer can hear track , voice mix @ same time right?

 

so need audio interface right? if - sort, £150 fine.

 

not sure how acheive mix in head phones, guess pre fade track 1 9 (i.e. music) hack or open fader ... oh confused. better if can 1, 2, 3 me

well, couldn't find epm 900 on soundcraft site...just epm 6/8/12.  depending on how epm900 differs ones found, there might way monitoring using aux send on mixer--bring computer mixer, set aux pre fade, turn aux send on both mic , computer channels, bring fader mic you're recording.  if can monitor aux send in headphones, want.

 

however, i'd recommend go audio interface route anyway.  built in audio inputs on computers notoriously poor quality (yes, macs) so, besides convenience you'd lot less noise , lot more headroom.

 

in price range quite few models.  can recommend alesis io2--i have 1 use simple location recordings when not using big digital mixer.  io2 goes around $100 in usa suppliers.

 

if want @ others, 1 feature want watch direct monitoring.  let monitor mic without latency occurs sending voice on round trip via computer , daw.
