How do I recreate this picture with my own photos using layers?

img_1566.jpg

quick steps:

  • import images plan use in document. (you can start out set background size don't have worry later.) place these images in 1 document. (there @ least couple of ways of doing this.) 1 way open 1 image, use file > place embedded (if using photoshop cc) place images document.
  • begin think how want composite these images together. layers work in hierarchy or "z-order"; layer @ top in layers panel visible unless masks applied. you'd want ideal sky , landscape @ bottom, while keeping golfer in full swing @ top. particular composite looks maybe 6 layers total: 5 of golfer in various stages of swing, 1 of background.
  • to begin, turn off layers background , particular golfer's swing image want work on. you'll want select golfer using of selection tools , turn selection mask using layer > layer mask > reveal selection (or use button @ bottom of layers panel; looks rectangle round circle inside of it).
  • the gist of you're allowed non-destructively "mask out" or "mask in" part of image using layer's mask using tools brush tool. masks work using grayscale values: total black means total concealment of layer's contents; total white means total revealing of layer's contents. in-between grays results in varying degrees of opacity.  goes far beyond scope of post without turning novel if want more in-depth layer masks: use masks hide layers in photoshop
  • repeat other layers.

from there, it's matter of stylizing. e.g., looks sky has vignette of sorts, maybe transparent gradient has layer mask applied part overlaps golfer can masked out. many ways of doing it.

if have questions, ask. that's we're here for.
